Pearson Professional Assessments
All ABPath certification exams are administered at Pearson Professional Assessments Test Centers.
Candidates will schedule their own exam(s) through the Pearson online system. Candidates will receive an email from ABPath notifying them when the scheduling window will open. The email will also include instructions on how to create an account and schedule your ABPath exam.
Please note not all dates and locations within the exam window will be available at all Pearson centers. Exam dates and locations are at the discretion of Pearson.

Before You Arrive
Review the following before your scheduled exam date so you know what to bring, what to expect, and how to prepare.
The Candidate Rules Agreement – You will review and sign the agreement when you arrive at Pearson Test Centers. It will save you time to read the agreemant ahead of your exam day.
Pearson Identification (ID) Policy – Candidates must show two forms of ID before entering the Testing Center. The first and last name on both IDs must match your first and last name in PATHway. Please review to ensure you have appropriate forms of identification on exam day.
Pearson Comfort Aid List – This list from Pearson VUE includes comfort aids that do not require pre-approval.

What to Expect at Pearson Testing Centers
Pearson’s Zero Tolerance Policy for Unauthorized Electronic Devices.
- Unauthorized electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside the testing area.
- Unauthorized devices must be turned off and stored in the designated locker area before the self-pat down and scanning process begins.
- If any unauthorized electronic device is found once the self-pat down process has begun, Pearson will ask you to leave. You will not be able to proceed with exam testing.
- ABPath will be notified and will determine appropriate action to be taken.
Security Screening
For security purposes, all Pearson Testing Centers will be using a handheld scanner during the check-in process. You may choose to opt out of being scanned for medical purposes only.
If you choose to opt out of scanning, you may do so after you have scheduled your examination. You must email Mary@abpath.org for Primary certification or Renee@abpath.org for Subspecialty Certification. Your email must be a brief statement of your medical reason along with documentation from your physician. Please include the confirmation email you received when you scheduled your exam.
Exam Accommodations
Nursing mothers and those who need to request an accommodation should NOT use the Pearson system to schedule their exam(s).
For more information on the Examination Accommodation or Nursing Mother Accommodation, you must contact ABPath at Mary@abpath.org for Primary exams and Renee@abpath.org for Subspecialty exams as soon as possible for approval and specific scheduling instructions.
FAQs Scheduling an Exam with Pearson Professional Assessments
1. Is the ABPath going to schedule my exam date?
Candidates will schedule their own exam(s) dates. Once ABPath notifies candidates that the scheduling period is open, they must create an account with Pearson VUE and then schedule the testing date and test center location of their choice based on availability.
2. How do I schedule an exam?
Candidates will schedule their exam(s) online. Once the scheduling period is open, go to the ABPath homepage on the Pearson website and create an account using your ABPath ID#. Once the account is created, you can sign in to select the exam you need to schedule.
If you have taken an ABPath certification exam in 2022 or later with Pearson, you will use the same login you created to take the examination(s).
If you took an exam before 2022 with ABPath or another organization, you must create a new account for your ABPath exam(s).
Friendly tip: You can select up to three test centers to compare appointment availability.
3. I am taking more than one exam. Do they have to be scheduled together?
Each exam will be scheduled separately and they do not need to be taken on consecutive days or at the same test centers. Candidates can schedule each exam on whatever day and/or test center is available during the testing window.
4. Are there going to be extended dates to take the exam?
ABPath certification exams must be taken during the exam test date window. No exams will be administered after those dates.
5. Can I take the exam remotely?
No, ABPath is using only Pearson Professional Testing Centers to administer the exams.
6. Can I travel to a different state/jurisdiction to take my exam?
Candidates may schedule their examination at any state or location they choose that is available. International locations are limited.
7. My exam is not available at my preferred testing location. What should I do?
Test centers vary in terms of the days and times they’re open and the exams they deliver. If your exam or date is not available at your preferred test center, please try an alternative date or search for other test centers. The earlier that you schedule, the more likely you are to get your preferred date and location. ABPath has no control over the dates and availability of Pearson testing centers.

8. Why do I only have a few available dates within the exam window to schedule my exam date(s)?
Not all exam date(s) within the exam window are available at all Pearson locations. Pearson determines examination locations and date availability. ABPath has no control over the dates and availability of Pearson testing centers.

9. Are Pearson test centers open on the weekend?
Test centers vary in the days and times that they are open. Candidates will need to determine days and times of availability with the test center they choose.
10. Will there be microscopes at the testing centers?
Microscopes are not required for the Certification Exams. The exams will be administered using virtual microscopy images where applicable and will be indicated on the daily exam schedules provided on the ABPath website.
11. May I wear earplugs or headphones during the exam?
Candidates may use foam earplugs supplied by Pearson VUE Professional Test Centers. Personal earplugs or headphones are not permitted.
12. May I bring or use scrap paper during the exam?
Whiteboards and markers will be provided for use during the exam(s). No items are permitted in the exam room except for your ID and locker key if you are using a locker for personal belongings, food, and beverages.
13. What form of identification (ID) will I need to show?
You are required to present two forms of original (no photocopies or digital IDs), valid (unexpired) IDs.
- Your first and last name only on your primary ID and secondary ID must match exactly the information Pearson has on file for you. If it does not match, please contact Mary@abpath.org for Primary exams and Renee@abpath.org for Subspecialty cams as soon as possible.
- Primary ID (unexpired) must be government-issued (e.g. driver’s license, passport) with your name, recent recognizable photo, and signature.
- Secondary ID must have your first and last name and signature (e.g. credit card), or your name and a recent recognizable photo (e.g. hospital ID).
- All IDs required must be issued by the country in which you are testing. If you do not have the qualifying ID issued from the country you are testing in, an International Travel Passport from your country of citizenship is required.
14. What health and safety measures is Pearson taking at the test centers?
Pearson VUE implemented a strict cleaning regimen at all Pearson Professional Centers. This includes providing hand sanitizer to candidates upon entering the test center and sanitizing the surface and equipment of each workstation at the end of every appointment. Any equipment used during the check-in process is sanitized after every use.
15. May I bring my inhaler with me to the test center?
Yes, Inhalers are an approved comfort device. They will be allowed in the testing room upon visual inspection by the Test Center staff. Visual inspection will be done by examining the item without directly touching it (or the candidate) and without asking the candidate to remove the item, unless otherwise stated in the Pearson VUE Comfort Aid List.
16. I have already scheduled my examination. How do I cancel?
If your examination has already been scheduled, please log into your Pearson account and cancel your examination(s). You will receive a cancellation email(s) from Pearson, upon receipt forward the email to Mary@abpath.org for Primary Certification or Renee@abpath.org for Subspecialty Certification along with an explanation of your reason for cancelling.
