2025 Important Dates and Deadlines



Application/Registration

Applications are available in PATHway beginning February 16.

All applications must be submitted by this date. Beginning in 2024, there are no late application deadlines.

Cancellation Deadline Date 

June 15

If a candidate cancels by this date there is a $500 cancellation fee; after this date, the total fee will be forfeited. ABPath Cancellation Policy

Exam Scheduling

July

Candidates will be notified in July when scheduling opens. Candidates must complete their application in PATHway prior to scheduling with Pearson VUE. Candidates will schedule their own exam date(s) and location(s) from select dates in the exam window below.

Please note that not all dates within the exam window will be available at all Pearson VUE centers. You may want to check different Pearson VUE locations for other availability. Exam dates and locations are at the discretion of Pearson VUE.

Clinical Informatics Exams Only

October 2025 – Date to be Determined

ABPath Diplomates/Candidates for the Clinical Informatics exam must apply/register with ABPath. The exam will be administered by the American Board of Preventative Medicine at Pearson VUE Testing Centers. Candidates must adhere to the ABPath cancellation policy.

For all subspecialties with the exception of Clinical informatics. Clinical Informatics exam dates for 2026 to be announced at a later time.

All exam dates and deadlines are subject to change.

*Clinical Informatics will be administered by the American Board of Preventative Medicine at Pearson VUE Testing Centers.


Exam Application Fees

Subspecialty Certification Only

$2100

  • The examination application fee includes a nonrefundable administrative fee of $200.

  • The ABPath accepts credit card payments only (MasterCard, Visa, and American Express). Checks are not accepted. Online payment must be completed before the application can be submitted.

  • A candidate for the Spring primary examinations (AP and/or CP) who wishes to apply for a subspecialty examination in the same year must submit the subspecialty application prior to the subspecialty application deadline.

    • If the candidate is successful in the primary examination, the ABPath will automatically process the application for the subspecialty examination.
    • If the candidate is not successful, he/she will be notified and the subspecialty examination fee minus the $200 administrative fee will be refunded. A new subspecialty application must be completed for future examinations.

  • If the candidate fails the examination, he/she may register for a future examination within the 7-year period of board qualification (refer to your qualification table located in your My Profile tab in PATHway). The candidate must pay the examination fee upon submission of the registration form. Please refer to the Booklet of Information for exceptions and additional information.
  • Results are posted to your Board Correspondence tab in PATHway approximately 6 weeks after the final week of all subspecialty exams.
