Clinical Informatics Exam Description
Certification in Clinical Informatics is a joint and equal function of the ABPath and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).
- ABPath Diplomates/Candidates for the Clinical Informatics exam must apply/register with the ABPath.
- ABPath diplomates cannot apply/register for the Clinical Informatics exam with ABPM.
- Examinations are scheduled and administered via the American Board of Preventive Medicine at Pearson VUE Professional Test Centers.
There are two pathways for certification in Clinical Informatics.

- ACGME-accredited Fellowship Pathway – complete the online application in PATHway
- Clinical Informatics Fellowship Simultaneous Training with ACGME Subspecialty Pathology Fellowship (Pathway A or Pathway B)
- Before beginning Simultaneous Clinical Informatics/ACGME Subspecialty Pathology fellowship training using Pathway A or Pathway B, your program directors must complete the form below.
- You must receive prior approval from each fellowship program director and the ABPath before beginning Pathway A or Pathway B.

The following additional pathways to certification will be available until the end of 2025
Candidates applying for Clinical Informatics using the Practice or Non-Accredited Fellowship Pathway cannot apply online and must use the application below.
- Practice Pathway is in effect until 2025. Applications will be accepted until May 15, 2026.
- Non-Accredited Fellowship Pathway must begin before the end of 2025. Applications will be accepted until May 15, 2028.
