Verifying Certification Status

Is My Physician Certified?

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) offers an online verification of certification status of physicians at certificationmatters.org. This site includes board-certified pathologists (ABPath diplomates) at no charge to the public.

When reviewing the certification status please note:

  • Certifications issued by ABPath prior to 1/1/2006 are non-time limited (or lifetime) certificates and do not require participation in the Continuing Certification (CC) Program. These diplomates may opt to voluntarily participate in the CC program.
  • Certifications issued by ABPath after 1/1/2006 require current participation in the CC Program to remain valid.

Official Primary Source Verification Request

Primary source verification of certification status for our diplomates can be requested for a $35 processing fee for each verification. As of 9/8/2022, all verification requests must be made through ABPath’s online request and payment system.

Follow the link below to request a primary source verification and make the credit card payment. The verification letter will be sent via email approximately 5-7 days after the payment is processed. A hard copy of the verification letter with an embossed seal will be sent through the mail.
