SAMs Availability
Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs) are a specific form of Category 1 CME required by
the American Board of Pathology (ABP) as part of its MOC program. These modules
must meet requirements as defined in the MOC SAMs Provider Information and
Agreement available on this web site. These activities may be used for Category
1 CME credit to meet CME requirements for licensure and educational requirements
of other organizations.
At its May 2008 meeting, the ABP voted to waive Part II MOC requirements for
SAMs through 2009. Diplomates with time-limited certificates are still required
to obtain an average of 35 CME credits per year. The ABP encourages all
diplomates to participate in SAMs where these are available in your area of
practice.
The ABP anticipates that electronic reporting of CME (including SAMs) will be
available by the end of 2010. A reporting form will be posted by November 2009
for those candidates certified by the ABP in 2007. These reports will be due in
the ABP office by January 31, 2010 along with $50 annual fee.
The following CME providers have been approved by the ABP as providers of SAMs.
Please check with these organizations to determine what SAMs are offered and
when they are available.
